Hey everybody,
Thanks for all of your submissions in the pigeon-hole contest! So far they all suck. I'd appreciate it if they got better. OK they didn't suck. Some of them were actually fantastic. But I'm not going to tell you which ones - yet. We want more. More! Keep it coming...

love,
Gern

The cd is fantastic! i finally got my lil paws on it and each track brings the show to my living room. minus the drinking, and the crowd hooting and cheering...well some of that, but its just really minus the crowd... Another show date?

Well, now that the guestbook is back up, I will have to resubmit an amended "genre contest" entry:

hmmm... Do I qualify for the genre contest by suggesting you simply add "with a vengeance" after whatever title you choose? Hope so. Great album, by the way, but I'm sure you already knew that.

The CD Broken Trucks and Bottles is now available at Cheap Thrills on Metcalfe here in Montreal. Also at Grumpys Bar on Bishop Street. It will soon be available on CDBABY.COM or for the more personal touch come see me at Grumpys Monday and Thursday night or at Brutopia Saturday afternoon, or Sunday night, or see any member of the USWM at any time day or night cause they all promise to have 18cds with them even when showering and will meet your music purchasing needs in to the future...

Monday finds me tired, yet content...

For all of you who where not able to make the show on Friday, I would just like to say you missed THE show of shows! It was a love-in on a grand scale... Club One was the perfect choice. It was intimate yet packed - just enough space for the massive turn out. The turnout seemed to be supplied via Rachel, Laura, and Tracy who, although every one I know did their utmost to promote the show, were a standout calling everyone they knew to invite them… I even got a call from Laura who cordially invited me…

After 2 weeks of intense rehearsal the band took the stage and from the word go it all felt GOOD. From the first chord, through the feed back, right to the last note…
Thank-you! We had more fun than we've ever had at a show. The crowd was incredible, the sound was good - I caught some tape of the show and I must say we looked damn good.

Everybody seemed to really enjoy themselves. They came, they saw, they drank, they enjoyed, and thanks to Laura and Rachel and (to a lesser extent but notable anyhow) Patrick fuckn Sullivan, we sold a ton of cds!
I'd like to thank Club One for the Hall, UrbanHanded Works for the Studio, Montreal for the name, all our fans for the reason, and the United Steel Workers of Montreal for all their hard work and friendship,

…keep an eye and an ear out for the great caper -Gern f.

THE CONTEST!!!!!!

As announced at the show we are having a contest to name our genre...

For months as we've been puttin the sell on people, the question keeps surfacing:
So what kind of music do you guys play?
-We put it to you...

There will be TWO prize packs to be won:
ONE for any one who can give us that quick one sentence sum-up of the band, and ONE for the the best hyphenated-ish title.
Example: alt-country or
Slim-Whitman-punk.

Prize packs (may) contain CD launch poster, a copy of the album or a voucher for the first USWM t-shirt to come off the line --OR-- trade that all in and pick whats behind DOOR #2, which may (or may not) contain a date with resident local single man Sean b'y Moore (contents of DOOR #2 may vary depending on shipping and handling agreements under NAFTA)
So good luck!

Your friend and quiz master,
Gern f.

Greetings Steelworkers,

I am very tired on this fine monday, and Gern f., I blame you. Do you have to be so darned entertaining every Sunday? It wouldn't kill you to be dull every now and then. In any event, kudos again on the record.

If you absolutely need to be labeled my suggestion for the pigeon-holing would be "baroque for truckers". I'd say that's non-sensical enough.

have a swell week,
Andre
